Charming Experience

20 February – 19 April 2009
2/F, Contemporary Hong Kong Art Gallery, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Tsim Sha Tsui

“Art is Life; it is about appreciating the everyday and enjoying life.” Ms. Grace Cheng, the curator, aims to bring the viewers two emphases of Charming Experience, Enjoyment and Participation in the exhibition. Eight selected artifacts from the collection of the Hong Kong Museum of Art are selected and seven local artists are invited to express the ideas of “enjoyment” and “participation” through their artworks by using different materials and media.

Art is life, and life is art. It is about how well we know about the material – what we are. It is about how we set the form and colour the content – our life plan. It is about what and how we represent through others, the community, and the world. More, it is about how much we enjoy our life, from where we are able to create many beautiful stories and works of life.

The subject matter is life, in either formulation.

Works of creation: The earth is gifted – we have air, light, and water. Man is gifted – we are able to see, to hear, to smell, to taste, and to feel. We enjoy the beauty of nature and life.

Way of life: “I consume therefore I am/not.” We appreciate material comforts.

Life network: Man is never alone. We enjoy the society of friends and family members. We bond to the community and the world, in where we leave the traces of life. We care for our future.

Through participation, I enjoy the exhibition.
Through art, I learn more about life.
